Student's Work in the Digital Signal Processing Laboratory

The main educational purpose of the Digital Signal Processing Laboratory is to give practical training and hands-on experience to those students who would like to learn digital signal processing in detail. To achieve this goal, there are many possibilities for students to work in the laboratory:

  • Project laboratory, which is a 2-semester course dedicated for making the first own design in the field
  • Bachelor's Thesis writing
  • Master's Thesis writing, which is a 1-semester full-time course
  • Students' Scientific Contest, which is an annual contest among students to present innovation, scientific research and development results.

The devices and tools in the laboratory support the solution of many kind of signal processing problems. These problems can be in the field of measurement, control, medical or audio signal processing, or from any other field where digital signal processing shall be used. The characteristic of the problem and the solution can be hardware, software or theoretical, or any combination of these. In the case of software solutions, the programming is done partly in assembly, partly in C language, while for supporting and testing theoretical derivations, the MATLAB environment can be used. In hardware problems it is possible to design analog as well as digital circuitry.

To solve the problems discussed above, you do not need to be a professional DSP programmer. Naturally it helps if you have some background in signals and systems, but most of the know-how can be picked up by working on the problem. However, we would really like to achieve if by the end of the course, not only simulations and calculations were done but working programs and circuits as well.

Who are welcome in the DSP laboratory?

  • Those, who know digital signal processing, and has have a certain problem to be solved;
  • Those, who do not know digital signal processing, but would like to learn it;
  • Those, who would like to learn signal processing and modeling theory in details;
  • Those, who like or would like to know programming close-to-hardware and would like to work on high performance digital signal processors;
  • Those, who would like to design hardware containing both analog and digital part.

In the following, some of the M.Sc. and B.Sc. theses written in our laboratory are listed. The one page abstracts are available by clicking on the title of the thesis. Note that most of the theses were written in Hungarian.
